Interim Math Teacher
We are seeking an Interim Math Teacher from January 5, 2026 through June 10, 2026, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent position for the 2026-2027 school year.
The teacher will lead three small math classes: 7th grade Pre-Algebra, 8th grade Algebra, and 9th grade Geometry- typically 8-9 students per class. Classes meet Monday through Thursday, with Fridays dedicated to whole-school activities such as art, cooking, hiking, and community projects.
The math curriculum follows standard progressions, while allowing the teacher latitude to design lessons, projects, and interdisciplinary connections that inspire curiosity and critical thinking. You’ll have a chance to incorporate your own interests- whether art, outdoor education, or engineering- into your teaching.
Collaboration and Support
The math teacher works in collaboration with the science teacher and humanities teacher—who together have 57 years experience. We value open communication and thoughtful structure, while allowing for teacher autonomy in the classroom. Our school operates with a clear, supportive framework that balances freedom and creativity with consistent systems that make teaching sustainable and joyful. You’ll have daily contact with your colleagues in humanities and science, and frequent opportunities to collaborate across disciplines.
The North Branch School maintains strong, healthy relationships among teachers, families, students, and board members, ensuring everyone feels supported and connected.
Responsibilities
-Teach three sections of math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry)
-Participate in all-school activities and events, including Morning Meeting and Friday interdisciplinary days
-Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning and well-being
-Attend parent conferences and monthly board meetings
-Contribute to a positive, fun, and dynamic school culture
Qualifications
-Experience teaching middle or high school math
-Enthusiasm for working with early adolescents
-Commitment to experiential learning and collaborative teaching
-Ability to bring structure, creativity, and care to the classroom
Working Conditions
This is a fulltime position with the potential to flex into part-time, depending on the candidate’s needs and fit. The position offers the opportunity to teach in a healthy school environment where teachers are supported, students are known and valued, and learning remains meaningful, relational, and joyful.
