Hello all you Penguin Plungers, and Penguin Supporters!
Our annual NBS Penguin Plunge is coming up on Saturday, February 1 from 2-3pm. Please show up at Tal and Rose's house, 114 Whitman Road in Ripton, between 1:45 and 2pm. Friends, family, siblings, neighbors - all are welcome!
Directions: Coming from the Ripton General Store, head up Lincoln Road and after about 0.2 mile turn left onto Whitman Road, ours is the first driveway on the right. We will have the lower parking area and a section of the adjacent field ready for your parking convenience. Please park "tightly" if you can.
Kids/ Penguins:
* Wear whatever you are comfortable going underwater in, your "plunging suit," under your warm clothes when you arrive.
* Bring extra shoes to wear in the water and to trudge through the snow back to the fire afterwards.
* Bring a big towel, and ask a friend or parent to kindly wrap you in it when you emerge from the icy penguin waters.
* When you are ready to plunge you can pre-heat in the sauna, then head up to the pond and get in line to plunge. Please don't overcrowd or hoard space in the sauna.
* When you are finished with the pond you can go change into your warm clothes - we will have separate "dressing rooms" insidethe house with signs to direct you. No hanging out in the house or roaming around the house (we will NEED to keep the dogs inside) after you change, get back out and support your mates!
* We will also have a hot fire going near the pond for you to warm up before and after...
*Rose and Tal will supply hot beverages. Feel free to bring any other snacks (brownies, cookies, etc.) to share.
*Remember that this is "challenge by choice" but certainly a fun experience!
Wild kids and Concerned Parents: No one will be running or jumping into the pond! Kids will be guided to WALK into the pond - down a gentle (though somewhat slippery) slope - feet on the bottom, we will take their hand and walk them in, then they will dunk under water when good and ready, they will turn around and we will take their hand and help them walk back out toward a waiting towel.
In the meantime, kids should continue asking for pledges of friends, family, neighbors, god-parents, etc.. The more, the better.
This is a student-driven fundraiser--it is a fun, much anticipated event, and all the money raised goes towards financial aid, making tuition at NBS affordable for all.
Thank you for your support! And great job, NBS Prune Penguins!
